Pet Turtle

The Pet Turtle is a members-only pet that can be used both on land and underwater. It was first introduced on August 2, 2012, and it can be purchased from its adoption icons in Claws 'N Paws or Flippers 'N Fins. It was set for clearance in February 2017, but its adoption icons were not removed, allowing it to still be purchased.

Appearance

The pet turtle has a large, rounded head and a smaller shell for a body. It can be customized with various colors, eyes, and either legs or fins.

Clicked - It goes in its shell and slides around while spinning.
Sit - It sits back on two hind legs/flippers.
Dance - It alternates kicking its two front legs/flippers up, and its two back legs/flippers up.
Sleep - It lies on its stomach and sleeps while animated Z's float above.
Hop - It hops up and down using all four legs/flippers at once.
Play - It flies a remote-controlled quadcopter.

Underwater Actions

Clicked - It goes in its shell and slides around while spinning.
Dance - It swims up and down in a sideways "S" shape from side to side.
Dive - It swims deep down and then back up in a clockwise oval shape.
Swirl - It swims from left to right in a clockwise oval shape.
Play - It maneuvers a remote-controlled submarine from side to side.

Rare Head

These "rare" accessories can only be found in the Pets Only Party and the Play-As-Your-Pet Party.

Top Hat: This is a tall, dark top hat with a colorful band around the crown.
Helmet: This is a thick, leather-like helmet.
Hood: This is a light-colored snow hood fr the cold.
Sun Hat: This is a wide hat with a long brim, rounded crown, and a flower attached to the side.

Head

Unicorn Horn: This is a bright, sparkly horn that has a spire-like shape.
Dragon Skull: This is a light skull that is shaped like a dragon's head.
Flower Band: This is a thin headband that has a colorful flower attached to the side.
Beanie: This is a dark, winter beanie that has a puff ball on the top and a scarf-like flap hanging down the back.

Face

Spots: This is a series of dark spots that appear on the pet's head.
Monocle: This is a golden monocle with shiny glass and leather-like straps.
Ninja Mask: This is a ninja-like eye mask with straps that billow in the back as if they were blowing in the wind.
Frankenstein's Monster: This consists of a scar on the forehead with large metal staples for stitches and metal neck bolts.

Back

Beetle: This is a rhinoceros beetle that follows the pet around and participates in actions.
Wings: This is a pair of bright, animated wings that flap continuously on top of the pet's back.
Swords: This is a pair of scimitar-like swords that appear on the side of the pet's shell.
Dragon Wings: This is a pair of large, dragon-like wings for the back along with a long tail.

Rare Underwater Head

These "rare" accessories can only be found in the Pets Only Party and the Play-As-Your-Pet Party, but because the two parties are for land pets only, these accessories remain inaccessible normally.

Newspaper Hat: This seems to be a hat made from newspapers, but it does not actually appear when worn.
Helmet: This seems to be some type of helmet, but it does not actually appear when worn.
Fruit Hat: This seems to be a hat made from bananas, grapes, and a pineapple, but it does not actually appear when worn.
Seaweed Hair: This seems to be a wig made out of seaweed, but it does not actually appear when worn.

Underwater Head

Cowboy Hat: This is a western-style hat with a raised brim and a band around the crown.
With Hat: This is a drooping, pointed hat that has a buckle in the front and a patch on the top.
Pirate Hat: This is a tall, dark hat that has a skull-and-cross-bones on the front.
Farmer's Hat: This is a conical straw hat similar to those worn by rice farmers.

Underwater Face

Eye-patch Mustache: This is a dark round eye-patch along with a mustache.
Crystal Eye-patch: This is a shiny crystal eye-patch that is attached with yellow strings.
Wig: This is a dark wig that covers most of the face.
Antennae: This is a pair of short, round antennae that appear on the top of the pet's head.

Underwater Back

Shrimp: This is a shrimp that swims near the pet and participates in the pet's action.
Shrine: This is a Japanese-style shrine or temple that replaces the pet's shell.
Rope: This is a coiled rope that appears alongside the pet's shell.
Broom: This is a wooden broom that appears alongside the pet's shell.

Trivia

Turtles are just one of only a few pets (such as Pet Polar Bears, Pet Hippos, and Pet Penguins) that can be used both on land and in water.
Turtles can be customized with flippers or legs, but they can still go underwater and on land with either choice.
Turtles are the first pet to be able to go on Land and Water.
As with most amphibious pets, the land accessories cannot be used underwater and vice versa.
When they were first released, they would automatically sleep when the player went idle for a short time, but that feature has since been removed.
In the Pet Stop, the turtle can get a ninja mask and katanas, which may be a reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The turtle's action when clicked (tucking into its shell and sliding) may be a reference to the Koopa Troopas from Super Mario Bros.
After an update in 2017, the Pet Turtle could no longer be found in the Choose a Pet menu; however, it could still be purchased from its adoption icons.
Despite only tortoises having legs, you can still choose them when customising a turtle.
