Without their manes, tails, eyes, etc. to identify them, each of the mane six are built on the same stock model. So how are they so vividly, unmistakbly unique in all our minds?
Inspired by a great editorial on The Round Stable by Headless Horse
Twilight, the powerfull yet neuotic bookworm, Rainbow Dash, the brash cocksure speed demon, Fluttershy's gentle shyness and overall fear of being noticed, powerful Applejack, party-time Pinkie Pie, Rarity's love of the spotlight... Charaters all brought to life so vividly through animation and personality. Personality I tried to emulate through the basic shapes and elements that make up each character.
I wanted their personalities to read though the shapes, and really a thank you to the animators for putting so much heart into these stupidly cute, scaled-down horses.
And thank all you out there for showing that there's still people who care about heart. Love you guys.
About the name:
Roommate walked in when I was just starting work on the video, saw that it was pony, and all he had to say was "Dork..." He's since fallen in love with the show, so this is for him.
Truly for Phil Borst's Mork, also! More about that later.
Also, Twilight must fall in every video I do, at least once.
Visually inspired by Motion Grapics designer Takuya Hosogane and his work https://vimeo.com/8,837,024 (Really, go watch it) The music is even from his 2,011 Motion Reel. Shift, Mork(Would never have attempted without for your generosity - this is truly yours) https://vimeo.com/40,006,163
Phil Borst's generosity is what really allowed and inspired me to make this video. In a medium that seems so set on keeping techniques secret, he shared his projects with the world. It's why I left that center section instantly recognizable as his; cause for all intents and purposes, this video is his. I never could of dreamt of trying to tackle a video like this without his teachings.
I've seen so many videos using his assets but trying to hide them through minor changes and transformations. But I wanted people to know even if he didn't touch this, he's fully responsible for its existence. I wanted atleast part of the video to read that.
I made this video mainly with the intent of sharing the project files. As more of a starting point for anyone wanting to explore the world of shapes.
Thanks for letting me pretend like I was part of this world for a little while. This is all because of you.
Made entirely in After Effects.
I'm not a professional...... anything. Anyone of you out there can, and should, start creating. Twenty years from now you'll be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. Download CS6, and get to work. PM me if you have any After Effects questions, and I'll try to help if I can.
