Bitter Sweets is a land and the first play as your Pet Adventure. It was released on October 2, 2014. It was also the first Adventure that could only be entered by portals, which were spread throughout Jamaa, but now it is accessible through the party tab. It was also open to all Jammers. It is available in October and November.

Walkthrough

1. The player starts in the middle of the map, and is instructed by an unnamed NPC, ???, to defeat the Proto-Phantoms which were created by the Phantoms by using stolen candy from Jamaa. The player must touch the Proto-Phantoms to defeat them, and by doing so the Proto-Phantoms will become candy.

2. After collecting a certain amount of candy the player will be given a reward or two at certain milestones, they being 100, 200, 400, 700, and 1,000.

Tips

• The map for this Adventure is shaped like a Phantom, where each leg of the Phantom covers one of the six areas: some caverns, a lab, a pumpkin patch, spooky forest, a swamp, and the graveyard.
• Flying Pets can fly over some areas that land Pets cannot reach, such as tombstones in the graveyard, tables in the lab, pumpkins in the pumpkin patch, and the water, the part that are not tree stumps, in the swamp.
• AJHQ recommends playing with no other programs open for the best experience.

Passage Rewards

There are two separate prize pools shared among all passages. While the Puppy and Peacock passages have an identical prize pool that does not contain rare items, all of the other passages share another prize pool that does contain rare items.

This passage is located on the top of the phantom eye and can only be opened by Pet Peacocks. The map location and dialog popup for the peacocks-only passage is seen in the image.

Kitty Passage

This passage can be found in the haunted graveyard at the bottom-right phantom leg. It can only be opened by Pet Bats. The map location and dialog popup for the bats-only passage is seen in the image.

Pony Passage

This passage is located in the bayou at the right-middle phantom leg. It can only be opened by Pet Ponies. The map location and dialog popup for the ponies-only passage is seen in the image.

Tarantula Passage

This passage is located in the haunted forest at the left-middle phantom leg and can only be opened by Pet Tarantulas. The map location and dialog popup for the tarantulas-only passage is seen in the image.

Honeybee Passage

This passage is located in the pumpkin maze at the bottom-left phantom leg. It can only be opened by Pet Bees. The map location and dialog popup for the bees-only passage is seen in the image

Group Pet Passage

The group passages are located at the end of each Phantom leg on the map and require four of any Pet type to stand on magical plates in order to reveal a treasure chest. The only prize it is known to give out is 75 candies. The one in the forest gives out 75 candies plus some extras.

Trivia

• Bitter Sweets was updated on October 9, 2014, with new placings for the normal phantoms. At first, they were placed all over the map but were changed to be in the Pet passages.
• This adventure returned on October 1, 2015.
• This adventure is similar to The Forgotten Desert, as the player must collect a certain quantity of items for their goal. Also, there are bonuses that can be unlocked when four Pets stand in a certain spot, similar to The Forgotten Desert as well.
• Proto-Phantoms were first introduced in this adventure; later, they were seen in pipes in The Search For Greely. Additionally Proto-Phantom-like Phantoms can be seen in the game Hedge Hog.
• The Pet Stop can be accessed by clicking on the Pet avatar icon located near the bottom left part of the screen.
• There used to be an adventure titled "TBA" which was for Pets, though it was deleted soon after. It was most likely the unfinished version of Bitter Sweets.
• This is the first adventure without an Alpha, though it is possible that the NPC the player talks to is one themselves.
• If the player clicks on some of the cattails in the Swamp, the cattails will turn into hotdogs.
• If the player clicks on some of the testing tubes in the Lab, they will light up and Phantom-like creatures can be seen. 
• If the player clicks on one of the Phantom tombstones in the Graveyard, it will release a screeching ghost. There is another one that appears to rise out of the ground with Phantom Goop underneath it. 
• When a player stands on any one of the spots in any of the group passages, in addition to one of the lanterns floating and lighting up, a small four-part piece of music will start playing.
• If a player touches a respawning Proto-Phantom, they will lose half a health point.
• There is a glitch where if the player loses all three of their health points, nothing will happen to them and they can still move around.
• This adventure is the second way that Jammers can play as their Pet, the first being the Play-As-Your-Pet Party.
• Different Pets may do different amounts of damage to Phantom Pods based on ways not completely known.
• Once 1000 candies are collected, even if the player touches the candies, they will not be added. The candy will disappear but the meter will not increase.
• There is a glitch where the music of one area will continue playing even as you move to another area or exit the adventure.

Changes in 2015

• The original adventure in 2014 was limited to four Jammers, opened the first candy chest after collecting only 50 candies, had a timer that gave Jammers only twelve minutes to collect candies, and included actual Phantoms that could put the player to sleep. These features were removed in the 2015 release. In addition, the Proto-Phantoms and Phantom Pods did not regenerate, but this was changed in 2015.
• In 2014, this adventure only had non-member prizes, but a members-only chest was added in 2015. Along with this, the appearance of the chests changed from golden treasure chests to purple Phantom-themed chests. When a Jammer received a prize in 2015, the adventure would display the non-member and member chests instead of displaying all five candy chests.
• The 50 Candy Chest in 2014 had its requirement raised to 100 candies in 2015.
• The Spooky Stone Fence and Spooky Tree Fence were added as members-only prizes for the 100 Candy Chest in 2015.
• The Mystical Potion Set and Spooky Wood Fence were added as members-only prizes for the 200 Candy Chest in 2015.
• The Frankenstein Mask and Eyeball Hat were added as members-only prizes for the 400 Candy Chest in 2015.
• The Mummy Mask and Vampire Mask were added as members-only prizes for the 700 Candy Chest in 2015.
• The Bone Claws and Hockey Mask were added as members-only prizes for the 1,000 Candy Chest in 2015.
• The passages in 2014 were different and were eventually changed in 2015.

A faceless Phantom glitch occurred when the passage was opened. A layering glitch with part of the Peacock underneath a tree. A glitch where the glowing areas will not appear. A glitch where the map does not load correctly. A glitch where the player's heart floats in midair. A glitch where the candy floats in an inaccessible spot.
